Blown Away - Title Sequence
Process
Objective
Our team of three was assigned to rebrand the title sequence of a show in need of a visual update. We chose Netflix’s Blown Away, a competition series about the high-stakes world of glassblowing.
The original sequence introduced the premise, but we saw an opportunity to create something more emotionally resonant. Our goal was to design an opening that better reflects the intensity, precision, and artistry that drives the show.

Conceptualization
To capture the raw intensity and delicate artistry of glassblowing, this opening sequence rebrand highlights the striking contrast between glass’s fragile nature and the fierce, fiery process of its creation.
This juxtaposition creates a balance of chaos and control, culminating in the reveal of glass in its most breathtaking form. It sets the emotional tone for a competition defined by precision, pressure, and beauty born from heat.

Execution
The project began as a 3D animated sequence, but as we developed the concept further, we transitioned to live-action capture to better reflect the intensity and intricacy of real glassblowing.
This shift also allowed us to work more efficiently within our time constraints while grounding the visuals in authenticity. The final sequence blends live-action footage with a 3D animated end title card, creating a cohesive experience that honors both the craft and the energy of the show.

Lessons Learned
This project taught me the importance of adaptability and how to pivot a creative direction without compromising quality or clarity.
We shifted from a 3D approach to live-action capture, staying true to the heart of the concept while enhancing it through the raw energy and authenticity of real glassblowing.
Much like glass itself, design can feel fragile, but when it's pushed through pressure and heat, it can become something far more refined.
I'm proud to say our reimagined title sequence for Blown Away went on to be nominated for three design awards.
